Parks & Recreation
The North County Recreation and Park District is one of the main recreational providers in the North Monterey County area. It encompasses 46 square miles including the North County communities of Castroville, Elkhorn, Moss Landing, Oak Hills and portions of Prunedale. The Moro Cojo, Castroville, Elkhorn and Tembladero Sloughs help shape the landscape character of the District.
The North County Recreation and Park District maintains and operates the majority of the following recreational facilities:
*The North County Recreation Center located at 11261 Crane Street, Castroville; the hub of the District. The Center has an indoor basketball court, a meeting room, a kitchen, a large BBQ pit and its own adjacent park featuring a children's play area, basketball courts (2), a community skate park, miniature-golf (9 holes) and a lawn area.
*Cato Phillips Park located on Wood Street in Castroville; is a petite park with a basketball court, children's play area, and picnic tables.
*Crane Street Park located at the end of Crane Street in Castroville overlooks the artichoke fields on the East side of town. This park has a children's play area, a picnic table with a BBQ pit, and a large grass area.
*Japanese School Park is located on Geil and Union Street in Castroville. The ballpark hosts many local youth tournaments and practices and is equipped with a snack bar.
*Rancho Moro Cojo Park is a 3.4 acre park in the Rancho Moro Cojo subdivision located on the corner of Los Ninos and Comunidad Way. This park has a baseball diamond, practice soccer field, children's play area, picnic tables and BBQ pits.
* Manzanita Park is located off of Castroville Boulevard in Prunedale. This community-built facility is the pride of our Little League, American Youth Soccer Organization and BMX programs. * Royal Oaks Park is located on Maher Road in Prunedale. The park offers picnic and recreational facilities in a beautiful oak woodland setting. The 122 acre park facility includes a softball diamond, tennis courts, a basketball court, horse shoe pits, and volley ball standards.
In addition to operating recreational facilities the District offers a variety of recreational programs; senior activities and lunch program, after school programs, summer camps and activities, youth and adult sports leagues, arts and crafts classes and more.
